Although Bajie (Nick Frost) tried to warn Sunny not to follow Pilgrim into the Meridian Chamber, he did so anyway in a bid to save baby Henry.

However, Sunny quickly regretted it when the Azra machinery came to life and the ancient energy started to course through him, Henry and Pilgrim.

Pilgrim essentially managed to take Henry’s powers for himself, leaving fans desperate to find out what would happen next.

Sunny will also have to contend with his long-lost sister who he can’t remember and blames him for the death of their mother.

AMC recently released a behind-the-scenes video in which the cast and the crew of Into The Badlands teased fans about the forthcoming episodes.

“Sunny‘s arc is a journey of self, of not who he is in the present but what his past was and how it relates to who he is now,” explained actor Daniel Wu, who portrays the head clipper.

Wu went on to tell Syfy: “Let's say that we can see more of [Sunny and Pilgrim’s] history and their connections to Azra.

“I think definitely you're going to see a reveal of their relationship and how it's tied to his sister, and how that's related to Azra and Pilgrim's mission.”

Reflecting on episode eight, Leopard Catches Cloud, Wu said that Sunny’s “biggest mistake” was following Pilgrim into the chamber.

He explained: “If you ever had to blame one big mistake, it was him allowing that to happen for the sake of Henry, but I think he was put between a rock and a hard place, and I don't think he fully understood the repercussions of that action.

“All he cared about as a father was his child, and the side effect of that was giving the power over to Pilgrim, and I think that was something that Sunny is going to live to regret forever.

“I think more so than what happened to Veil or anything else. It's not just on his family, but it's going to affect every individual citizen in the Badlands.”
