GAME OF THRONES Varys has acted as a somewhat mysterious character in the series due to his manipulative nature and penchant for secret-gathering. But what will become of him in the final season?
Varys (played by Conleth Hill) has acted as an informant for the powerful in Game of Thrones but hes always remained a slippery sort of character.
The eunuch is currently allied with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clark) and her claim to the Iron Throne, but he has stopped to question her at points on the HBO show.
And now it looks like his doubts could reappear and be responsible for his downfall.
In a poll conducted by Express.co.uk, a significant 27 per cent believe Varys will meet his end in season eight at the hand of Daenerys dragons.
More specifically, that he will be burnt alive by them.
In season seven, viewers saw Danerys order her dragons to kill both Randyll Tarly (James Faulkner) and his son Dickon (Tom Hopper) in a move which shocked some of her followers.
Varys was clearly concerned about her ruthless actions as he was reminded of her mad father Aerys, so he doubts could land him in trouble.
However, the same percentage of readers believe he will keep his current position as counsel to Daenerys if she claims the Throne.
Just lagging behind in second place at 26 per cent is the likelihood that he will be slain be Melisandre (Carice van Houten).
It is certainly a possibility considering the forewarning she gave him about his death.
Last season saw the pair engaged in a very interesting discussion where she explained how she would be going back to Volantis.
She told him: Ive done my part. Ive brought ice and fire together...My time whispering in the ears of kings has come to an end."
Varys then advised her never to return to Westeros, but Melisandre wasnt about to listen to him.
"Oh, I will return dear Spider. One last time, the Red Woman declared.
She then issued a chilling statement as she said: I have to die in this strange country, just like you."
So could it be that she will be the one to end Varys?
On the other hand, the most imminent threat to Westeros is the White Walkers, but only 14 per cent believe that would be his destiny in the ultimate series.
Varys has never expressed a desire for direct control and power of the kingdom, which is perhaps reflected in the votes as only six per cent of readers think he will end up on the Iron Throne.
However, viewers will have to wait until 2019 to find out what happens to all the characters once and for all.
Game of Thrones season 8 will return to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019. Seasons 1-7 are currently streaming on NOW TV.
