GAME OF THRONES season eight has finished shooting and Tyrion Lannister star Peter Dinklage has opened up about how he felt on his last on set.
Game of Thrones has been one of the most-loved TV shows ever since it premiered back in 2011.
Season eight will be the show’s very last and it’s going to be a tough watch for all Game of Thrones fans.
However, the last day of shooting was very hard for the cast and crew who have working on the show since the very beginning.
After winning an Emmy earlier this week, Game of Thrones star Peter revealed the emotions he felt on the last day of shooting back in July.
Speaking backstage at the Emmy Awards after picking up the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, the actor began by revealing his concerns when first taking on the role.
“I had concerns about this genre, I wasn’t familiar with the books or the complexity of Tyrion before this because unfortunately before this character, many times people my size weren’t interesting enough for me to be interested in doing it,” he said.
“I had done it one or two times before and it sort of didn’t you know, grab me but they relieved my concerns very quickly.”
Peter went on to reveal how difficult it was to say goodbye to a character he “adored”.
“I had my last day on set in July, just over two months ago now and it was very sad,” Peter revealed.
“This is not only a great TV show to be a part of, but it was an enormous family to be a part of.
“I’m sure you’ve heard that before from actors but in this case I was far from home, I live in New York and we shot the show in Europe, so many times I had to stay there and couldn’t go home on the weekends and I really developed deep roots in the community of Ireland and some of the other countries we shot in.”
He continued: “It was definitely hard to say goodbye, because it wasn’t just saying goodbye to the show, I was saying goodbye to a life over there.”
Tyrion has been a fan favourite ever since his first appearance in season one.
The rebellious Lannister has grown as a person over the course of seven seasons and has become one of the noblest characters on the show.
Tyrion genuinely believes in Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) and is trying everything he can to ensure that she ends up on the Iron Throne so that Westeros could have a shot at peace.
Things will be very tough with the threat of the White Walkers on the horizon, which promises to be the basis of an incredible final battle in season eight.
Peter, who was promoting his latest movie, I Think We’re Alone Now, was asked whether the upcoming season of Game of Thrones could top the incredible Battle of the Bastards.
“Oh my god, and then some. You are in for it. Truly,” he replied.
Remembering how epic the Battle of the Bastards was, it seems as though Game of Thrones viewers are in for something rather spectacular.
Game of Thrones season 8 will return to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019. Seasons 1-7 are currently streaming on NOW TV.
