Warning: Contains possible spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8.
He thought his troubles were over when he was stabbed to death at the end of season five, but Jon Snow has barely had a moment's peace since he was resurrected in season six and we can't imagine the final season will just see him chilling out with Daenerys.
There's no doubt that a major part of the final season of Game of Thrones will be the fallout of the reveal that Jon slept with his aunt in the season seven finale.
He simply has to find out his actual heritage and real name, and we imagine it'll happen pretty early on now that Bran knows the truth. Jon takes after his father in being honourable, so as shaken as he'll probably be, he'll likely continue to pledge his allegiance to the Dragon Queen, even if he'll maybe think twice about sharing her bed again. (Bet he'll do it, though.)
To throw a further spanner into their blossoming relationship, season eight looks set to finally reveal who is Azor Ahai, the Prince That Was Promised (a bigger deal in the books than the show, admittedly) with a long-held fan theory arguing that Jon is this messianic figure reborn and he'll have to plunge his sword into the heart of his true love Dany, fulfilling the prophecy. This would be a pretty dark place to end the show (not to mention the ultimate example of 'fridging'), but would fit with Emilia Clarke saying her final scene "f**ked me up".
But we don't think that Jon will suddenly decide to kill off his new love interest, so should this theory come to life, we reckon it'll be because Dany has taken after the Mad King and gone a bit kill-crazy again, leaving Jon with no choice.
Then again, Kit Harington doesn't think Jon would be all that keen on being the Prince That Was Promised.
"If someone turned to him and said, 'You're The Prince That Was Promised,' he just wouldn't pay much attention. That's what I love about him, so I don't really care about it either. You know, I think that's what's great about him. He's got very little ego on him," he explained last year.
So maybe in this instance, we know nothing and it'll turn out to be Samwell Tarly.
Before all this prophecy drama, though, Jon will be a bit busy fighting against the Night King and his pesky White Walkers.
The end of season seven saw the Night King's army break through the Wall, just as Jon, Dany and co were on their way back to Winterfell to fight, thinking that Cersei had their back. In a classic Cersei move, she told Jaime she was lying and would just stay in King's Landing, securing her position and fighting whoever remains after the epic battle.
That strategy might not work out too well for Cersei though, as set photos have shown a rather battered-looking King's Landing, with it looking like fire has played a major part in its destruction, potentially from the mouth of Viserion. Fold in the other set photos we've seen of a fiery Winterfell and it looks like Jon and Dany won't be too successful in holding back the Night King in the early skirmishes.
Quotes from Kit Harington have also hinted at season eight being rather exhausting for poor Jon. "It's a lot of — it's just bigger than it's ever been! It is sinking in, it's just quite emotional," he outlined in December 2017, while in an interview about Gunpowder, he described the day he's just had filming season eight as "gruelling".
Game of Thrones has never been afraid to chuck in a massive battle sequence before the final episodes of a season, so we reckon the war between the Night King and Jon will reach its peak sooner than you might think, leaving the finale to wrap everything else up. And who knows, maybe the real villain of season eight won't be the Night King – who may or may not be Jon's brother Bran – but Daenerys, leading to the whole Prince That Was Promised saga.
Given that the original book series was called A Song of Ice and Fire, it's long been believed that the ultimate end game would involve Jon (Ice) and Daenerys (Fire). So there's an epic theory that argues it's actually Dany and her dragons that bring ruin to the Seven Kingdoms and NOT the Night King, who's actually all right when you get to know him.
Jon will be the one who discovers the Horn of Winter and commands the army of White Walkers (who are actually good guys now), wakes up an alleged Ice Dragon (or maybe just uses Viserion) and takes on Dany and her two dragons in one fell swoop.
It would fit in with the destruction levelled on King's Landing and Winterfell, as well as the set photos that have seen Kit Harington filming in Dubrovnik, which stands in for King's Landing. Perhaps Jon is in the city for one final stand against Dany?
A more bittersweet ending for Jon could also be that after defeating the Night King (and maybe Cersei if Jaime hasn't done it yet), he has to stay in the North to be the King in the North, while his true love/aunt Dany rules from King's Landing.
Whatever happens with Jon in the final season of Game of Thrones though, don't expect to hear any spoilers from Kit Harington. "[I was told], 'Don't tell them when you're filming. Don't take pictures in Belfast. Don't do all of that'," he reflected in 2017. "It's on lockdown!"
Fittingly, even his soon-to-be wife Rose Leslie knows nothing.
